Using 2D or 3D TCAD simulations for cylindrical detectors in Allpix²

Hello,

I have recently started using Allpix Squared to simulate a cylindrical silicon PIN detector. I have a question regarding the import of TCAD electric fields for this detector geometry. Since cylindrical geometry was not originally available as a detector model in the framework, I implemented a custom model for it.

My question is whether it is necessary to perform full 3D TCAD simulations (e.g. with Sentaurus), or if it is possible to use 2D simulations and then import them into Allpix Squared. I am aware that Allpix Squared mesh converter tool can transform 2D TCAD simulations into 3D meshes. However, I am not sure whether this approach correctly supports cylindrical symmetry, or if it simply extrudes the 2D data without accounting for radial effects.

Could someone clarify whether cylindrical symmetry is properly handled in such conversions, or if a full 3D TCAD simulation is required for accurate results?

Thank you in advance.
