I am trying to simulate a radial strip detector and I would like to use TCAD fields for the electric field and the weighting potential. Reading through the docs, I can’t seem to find a straight forward way to do this since the MeshConverter indicates that allpix use a regular grid for the fields. My question is then: is it even possible to use TCAD fields in a radial strip sensor in Allpix?
at the time of implementing that detector model we have thought about this quite a bit but have not converged on a solution. Strip sensors (in our field) are mostly simulated in 2D FEM since along the strips (which may be many cm long) there is no significant electric field component.
With radial strips however, the issue is that the inter-strip distance changes as a function of the radius and therefore requires different simulations. Knowing your other requests I presume you would again be simulating the entire sensor in a relatively coarse mesh - and similar to your other simulation I think we indeed have to provide a possibility to load entire-sensor fields.
I see, it seems to be problem not as trivial as to just make a change of coordinates…
It was more out of curiosity if it was possible but I hadn’t seen how yet. My goal is to simulate a radial strip CT-detector, but as a first approximation, parallell strips are just fine! And to see wether or not the resolution changes along the length of strips, I can always simulate different pixel pitches in the relevant range.
