up to now, fake hits are not implemented in Allpix Squared. There is a definition of noise in the DefaultDigitizer, but this is applied to PixelCharges only, meaning to pixels that actually contain charges. Pixels without any charge are not at all touched.
Implementing fake hits within an event is certainly possible, so this is something you and/or your colleagues could implement, if required. Simulating hits that are not synchronised to an event (e.g. fake events) will be much harder to achieve. If you plan on implementing this and need any directions on where to start, you can let us know and we can provide you with hints.
